producer iconAbout The Producer

After saving money for years as an accountant, Getachew bought his own land in Shakiso to begin farming. He planted his first tree in 2009 and chose the region because of its very high quality potential for specialty coffee. His operation has steadily grown over the years to include its own washing station and dry mill. What distinguishes his farm, Tero, and washing station, Dimtu, from others is the structure of its outgrower program. Rather than just purchasing cherry, Getachew’s team registers and maps every contrib- uting farm, trains in agronomy and processing, and maintains meticulous records. Participating farmers receive pre-harvest financing, seedlings, and

Ripe cherries are sorted and de-pulped. Any remaining mucilage is fully removed prior to drying. At Tero, the coffee is prepared through Dimtu’s own processing faciities, so everything is done in-house. Careful washing and drying helps maintain quality control and a clear separation of the coffees flavours.

variety iconVariety

74110 is a locally selected subvariety of Ethiopian Heirloom, developed in the 70s at the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) for resistance to the coffee berry disease. The prefix ‘74’ indicates that the selection and cataloguing occurred in 1974. The subvariety 74110 was selected from an original “mother tree” in the Bishari village in the Oromia region. The trees are short and compact, with small leaves and cherries.
