producer iconAbout The Producer

The Danche Washing Station is located in one of the finest coffee producing areas within the infamous Gedeb Woreda, the Chelbesa kebele. It is known for its dense vegetation structure, encompassing banana trees, and shade-grown coffee trees. The fermentation tanks in the wet mill at Danche are built with ceramic, which helps bring clarity in the coffees processed there.

Once the cherries arrive at the Danche Station, they are placed in water for sorting and removing of floaters. For the Natural lot, the whole cherry is left to dry-ferment in tanks for 3 days, and later placed in raised beds to sun-dry. The cherries is constantly moved each day, taking 16-21 days to fully dry.

variety iconVariety

Landrace is an umbrella term that refers to all the coffee varietals endemic to Ethiopia. As believed to be the birthplace of coffee, the trees have been growing and cross-breeding for centuries in this country. As a result, today, there are numerous sub-varietals with some common genetics but slightly different behaviour and taste. Relatively recently, in the last few decades, there has been an organized effort to research and identify different endemic varietals growing in Ethiopia by name, disease resilience and yield production.
