This stunning Mejorado is from Fincas del Putushio and producer Jose Jijon. Jose is the son of Pepe Jijon, an award winning producer from Ecuador. Jose is a 19-year-old aspiring producer who has a deep passion for coffee. This is our fifth harvest from Putushio and Jose, and we are proud to be trusted as the only roaster in Canada to feature this coffee.

We taste fresh green grapes, sparkling lemon-lime, and sweet yellow plum. We love Mejorado for its deep sweetness, but this mejorado is also sparkling clean. This coffee has a very light body and a clean finish.

producer iconAbout The Producer

Pepe Jijon is an inspiring producer with an inspiring farm: Finca Soledad. His son, Jose, has been learning and working at Soledad for much of his life. His farm, San Pedro, and Francisco's farm are what make up Fincas Del Putushio. They are a sister-farm duo creating the next evolution in coffee farming for the Jijon family. September is proud to support Jose and Pepe's hard work at Putushio. The farm is very small with limited production so we are very lucky and thankful to have some of his coffee this year.

process iconProcessing

This coffee is traditionally washed. The Mejorado is picked and depulped the same day and left overnight in dry parchment. The coffee is then rinsed in fresh spring water and slow dried on covered raised beds for thirty days.

variety iconVariety

Mejorado has become the gem of Ecuador. Although it’s certainly similar in name to Typica, Typica Mejorado is not related to this variety. It is now known to be a cross-pollination of Bourbon and Ethiopian Landrace.
